Naturopathic Philosophy

Approach to Naturopathic Medicine:

Naturopathic medicine is based on the theory that our bodies have the innate ability to restore physiologic and emotional balance and promote healing if provided the right tools. I will work with you to help your body, mind, and spirit restore and support this inherent healing process by using therapies tailored specifically to you that are purposeful, safe, and effective at helping your body initiate its own healing process.

Dr. Bergs’ Six Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

01

Do No Harm
My staff and I will initially look to noninvasive treatments that maximize the healing of the body while minimizing the potential of harmful side effects. My extensive training as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, Acupuncturist, nutritionist and Chinese herbalist gives me the confidence to accurately assess the level of intervention required by each patient to achieve whole body health.

02

Treat the Cause
I am committed to spending time and listening to each patient. I will work to determine the underlying cause of an illness and will treat the whole body rather than focusing only on symptoms of a disease. My extensive experience and education in the healing arts provides me with an unparalleled ability to detect, diagnose, and treat disease by improving the foundation of health.

03

Treat the Whole Person
The body is a complex organism tied together by a complex web of physiologic and psychological processes. I will work with each patient to understand the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, genetic, dietary, environmental and lifestyle factors that can affect a persons health. My staff and I will consider each of these factors when treating a patient.

04

Doctor as Teacher
My goal is to educate and empower patients to become active participants in their healthcare. I recognizethat improving patient health is a team effort and my staff and I will take the time to educate patients regarding the steps needed to achieve and maintain optimal health.

05

Prevention
I firmly believe that education is the key to prevention of chronic illness. Preventative medicine in not only preventing disease but is also key in preventing minor illnesses from developing into more serious or chronic diseases. Through my many years of private practice, I have learned about the various assessment methods required to identify disease risk factors and make appropriate interventions to prevent illness and chronic conditions.

06

Determinants of Health
I have been trained to think about all variables that affect patient health and influence the course of disease. Understanding these variables or “determinants of health,” such as lifestyle shifts, genetic factors or dietary shifts plays a key role in patient care. My staff and I will spend time working with each patient to better understand how all these variables affect the overall health of the patient.
