Women’s Health

Women’s Wellness Services

Our women’s health program is focused on incorporating evidence-based natural therapies with conventional medical  techniques, to support the healthcare needs of all women during each phase of life.

It is my goal to make this a complete, comfortable and empowering experience. During your consultation, I will listen to your specific health concerns, take a thorough health history, perform physical exams and utilize state of the art laboratory tests in order to evaluate your current health and hormonal status. At your follow up appointment you will be provided with a personalized treatment plan that addresses both your current health concerns and provides the preventative strategies to optimize your health and wellness.

Menopausal & Peri-menopausal Transition

The US Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for cervical cancer starting from the onset of sexual activity or age 21 until age 65.  The screening is done by taking a small sample of cells from the cervix (a Pap smear) and sending it to the lab for analysis.  This screening is recommended every three years, more frequently if any abnormal results are found.  A bi-annual exam (checking the uterus and ovaries) and a breast exam are also recommended annually.  When you come in for a visit you will be offered all of these services, as well as a thorough discussion of sexually transmitted disease prevention, contraception, and any fertility/menopause concerns.  You will also get a physical exam that includes heart, lung, thyroid, abdomen, and any other areas of concern.

Hormone levels shift as you age.  Balancing these hormones can decrease symptoms including fatigue, depression, dry skin, night sweats, hot flashes, and irritability.  Treatments often include lifestyle and dietary changes, individualized nutrient plans and supplementation.  Bio-identical hormone replacement may be suggested  for the relief of symptoms that remain problematic.

Menopause marks a transition in mind, body and spirit. Developing your unique path to success through this transition is our passion for you. You personal story and unique symptom presentation will be combined with advanced hormone analysis to guide treatment recommendations to balance your hormones. We analyze your hormone symphony to bring harmony for this new phase of life.

Menstrual Disorders/Irregular Menstruation

Many women have irregular menstrual cycles and abnormal menstrual bleeding. The normal 28-day cycle can have variability by a few days with only minimal bleeding or cramping to completely irregular cycle with multiple days of bleeding with heavy flow and cramps. If your periods are irregular or marked by heavy flow or lasts a long time, you likely have an underlying imbalance that can be corrected. A woman should be in balance with mind, body and spirit and our goal is to help bring balance and regularity to your cycle.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a common condition characterized by pelvic pain, pain with intercourse and infertility. This occurs when uterine tissue (also called endometrial tissue) is found outside the uterus. Symptoms may be mild, yet many women suffer markedly with this condition. There are successful strategies not involving surgery to free women from this discomfort permanently.

Fibrocystic Breasts

Breasts with multiple nodules or lumps that may become painful characterize fibrocystic breasts. Pain is typically increased prior to menstruation. An imbalance in estrogen and progesterone known as Estrogen Dominance is common and easily restored. Lifestyle and nutritional influences can markedly affect the symptoms a woman may experience.

PMS

PMS involves the relationship of hormonal and lifestyle factors and can affect all aspects of a woman’s life. Every woman has a unique experience and we work together to create an individualized treatment plan focusing on symptom relief and restoring balance. The goal is to restore a healthy rhythm to the monthly fluctuation and providing a holistic approach to symptom control.

Osteoporosis/Osteopenia

Osteoporosis is a very common disease of the bone characterized by a decrease in bone mineral density and increase risk of fractures. Early detection provides a means of intervention to markedly reduce the potential of any fracture or height loss due to spinal bone loss. Proper nutrition, optimal Vitamin D levels, exercise and hormonal evaluation are necessary for preventing the onset of osteoporosis. Osteopenia is a precursor to osteoporosis and needs to be aggressively treated to prevent progression to Osteoporosis.

Yeast Infection/Candida

Candida overgrowth is a very common source of many other problems. Recurrent infections, inflammation, mood, fatigue, carbohydrate craving/weight gain, low blood sugar, insomnia, poor concentration, migraines and many other common problems are driven by this seemingly unrelated problem. Finding balance of the yeast to natural flora is the key to success. Our effective therapies focus on balancing the yeast infection naturally and preventing its overgrowth.

Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is chronic pain in the area around the opening of the vagina (vulva) for which there is no identifiable cause. The pain, burning or irritation associated with vulvodynia can make you so uncomfortable that sitting for long periods or having sex becomes unthinkable. The condition can go on for months or years. If you have vulvodynia, don’t let the absence of visible signs or embarrassment about discussing the symptoms of vulvodynia keep you from seeking help.

Interstitial Cystitis

Interstitial Cystitis is also know as Painful Bladder Condition and is a chronic condition in which you experience abnormal bladder pressure, bladder pain and sometimes pelvic pain, ranging from mild discomfort to severe pain. The signs and symptoms of interstitial cystitis vary from person to person and are more common in women than men. Symptoms may vary over time, periodically flaring in response to common triggers, such as menstruation, sitting for a long time, stress, exercise and sexual activity. Determining the root cause of this type of bladder pain is the first step in developing a personalized treatment protocol which may include certain natural medications, herbal treatments, massage therapy and acupuncture.

The Women’s Health program is rooted in the philosophy and practice of naturopathic medicine and embrace a full spectrum of therapies that are aimed at addressing the root cause while eliminating symptoms. Treatment programs are tailored to each individual woman’s lifestyle and biochemical individuality.
