Nervous System Disorders

The nervous system is vulnerable to various disorders. It can be damaged by trauma, viral infections, age related degeneration, tumors, autoimmune disorders, and other genetic and environmental factors.

The most common general signs and symptoms of a nervous system disorder may include persistent or sudden onset of a headache, loss of feeling or tingling, weakness or loss of muscle strength, sudden loss of sight or double vision, memory loss, impaired mental ability, lack of coordination, muscle rigidity, tremors and seizures, back pain which radiates to the feet, toes, or other parts of the body, or muscle wasting and slurred speech. An imbalanced nervous system can also affect quality and quantity of sleep as well as adversely impact quality of life.

Because the symptoms of a nervous system disorder can resemble other medical conditions or problems it is important that the patient and I discuss all the possible variables involved in the disease. Spending time deciphering the root cause of any disease is critical to the success of any treatment. As a staunch patient advocate I am very open to referring patients to specialists when necessary to solve complex disease states and improve the quality of a patient’s life.
